SSG John William Fischer

SSG John William Fischer, b. 27 Apr 1917 - d. 7 Jun 1944. Son of William Andrew and Frances Etta (Propst) Fischer of Hickory, NC, he was living in Farmville, Virginia when he enlisted in 1941. SSG Fischer was assigned to E Company 116th Infantry. In this photo he is standing to our right, a SGT apparently on guard duty with two other 116th Regiment soldiers. SSG Fischer rests in the Normandy American Cemetery and there is a centotaph in the Westview Cemetery in Farmville, Virginia.
