TSGT Leslie Lewis Jewett

TSGT Leslie Lewis Jewett was born 14 Nov 1917 in Hampton, Connecticut to Carl Weaver and Dorothy Alicia (Brakenridge) Jewett. His father was a farmer.

Leslie entered the service in March 1941.  At some point in his training, he may have been assigned to Camp Wheeler near Macon, Georgia.  On 20 Aug 1942 he married in Macon, Miss Rosie M. Maze of that same city.  They had a son born the next year.  Sometime before 6 Jun 1944 Leslie was assigned to A Company 116th Infantry and trained with the unit for the amphibious assault that would take place on 6 Jun 1944.  TSGT Jewett was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

TSGT was repatriated and is buried in South Cemetery in Hampton, Connecticut.  His wife, Rosie, never re-married.  Their son, Donald Lewis Jewett, died in 1963 at age 19.
