T5 John Trent Kincer

T5 John Trent Kincer was born 19 Jan 1921 in Wythe County, Virginia the 2nd of 4 children of Elbert Edgar and Elizabeth Beatrice (Andrews) Kincer.  His father worked in a railway shop and the family farmed. Elbert reported a 1939 income of $1900.

John was a PVT in the Medical Detachment in the National Guard when the unit was federalized in February 1941.  He trained with the unit at Fort George Meade, Maryland and at Camp Blanding, Florida before embarking for England in September 1942.  While in England he was attached to B Company 116th Infantry as a medic and trained for the amphibious assault on the French beaches in Normandy.  T5 Kincer was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944 participating in that invasion of "fortress Europe".

T5 Kincer was repatriated and is buried in Mount Ehraim United Methodist Church Cemetery in Wythe County, Virginia.
