PFC Claude H. Brownell was born 8 Nov 1921 in Baskin, Louisiana to John Harvey Jr. and Fannie Lee (Phillips) Brownell. The family farmed and Claude was farming with his father in 1940.
After entering the service, Claude was sent overseas and assigned to B Company 116th Infantry. He trained with that unit for and embarked with that unit for the amphibious assault on Hitler's "fortress Europe". He was killed in action that day, 6 Jun 1944, on the beach near Vierville-sur-mer.
Claude is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
