PFC Everett K. Polley

PFC Everett K. Polley was born 20 May 1924 in Lewis County, Kentucky. We believe his parents were Robert and Virgie M. (Corun) Polley. His parents divorced soon after his birth and his mother remarried before 1930. His step-father, Grover Cleveland Gilbert, worked in several different jobs. However, that marriage also ended in divorce before 1940. We do not know what became of Virgie. Everett did manage to attend 3 years of high school.

Everett was drafted in February 1943. After his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He trained with that unit in preparation for the amphibious attack on occupied France that would take place on a Normandy beach code named "Omaha". PFC Polley was killed in action in that attack on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Polley is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
