PVT Charles Burnes Langston was born 20 Mar 1922 in Bearden, Oklahoma the third of five children of George Wesley and Sybol Pearl (Ott) Langston. His father worked in the Oklahoma oil fields at various jobs and reported a 1939 income of $1560. Charley was raised in Wetumpka, Oklahoma and attended Lawnwood grade school and Wetumpka High School. The family moved to Bakersfield, California after 1940. His connections to Oklahoma were strong and in 1942 he married Betty Kathryn Harbison. The couple would have a daughter in March 1943.
Charles was living in Bakersfield, California when he was drafted in September 1943. His initial training was at Camp Roberts, California. Sent to England he was assigned to C Company 116th Infantry but it may have been not very long before the amphibious assault on the French beach code-named "Omaha" and Charles probably didn't get as much training in amphibious operations as the rest of the company had had since coming to England in September 1942. PVT Langston was killed in action in that attack on 6 Jun 1944.
PVT Langston was repatriated and re-interred in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Bakersfield, California.
