PFC Frank Nuzzo

PFC Frank Nuzzo was born 16 Feb 1919 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of 3 children born to John and Anna (Bovie) Nuzzo. His father, John, died in the 1918 influenza epidemic and he was raised by his mother Anna and her second husband, August Iacconi, along with his older siblings, Elizabeth and John and 4 half-siblings at 327 Catherine Street in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. The Nuzzos were a large and close extended family who often visited each other. His step-father worked as a coal miner but by 1940 was forced to work for the W.P.A. earning $633 in 1939. Frank graduated from high school in 1939.

Frank was drafted in July 1941. Given the policies in place at that time it is likely that he was soon assigned to B Company 116th Infantry and trained with them at Fort Meade, Maryland and Camp Blanding, Florida before shipping out with the unit for England aboard the Queen Mary in September 1942. After arriving in England he would have participated with his unit in training for the amphibious assault that was planned for the beaches of occupied France. PFC Nuzzo was killed in action in that effort on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Nuzzo rests forever in the Normandy American Cemetery.

His older brother, John Nuzzo, also served in the U.S. Army during WW2.
