PFC Horace Haddock Lowe

PFC Horace Haddock Lowe, known as "Jack", was born in 1921 in Maryland one of thirteen children of Francis Perry and Catherine Marie (Best) Lowe. He apparently went by "Jack" for most of his life. Francis was working as farm labor in 1930.  Carrie as Catherine was known, died later in the year.  Some of the older children were already married but the six youngest (17 and younger) were without their mother's care.  Francis died in 1935 and four of the youngest children had to go to other families.  None were living with their siblings in 1940 and we do not know what Jack's circumstances were.

After entering the Army as Jack Lowe, Jack was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry.  Before departing he married Catherine Louise Marcus of Loudon County, Virginia.  He trained with the A Company as a rifleman for the amphibious landing on the French beach code-named "Omaha".  He was taking part in that assault when he was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Lowe is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Brother, Franklin Lowe, served in the Army, 1943-1946 and brother, Charles Lindbergh Lowe, served in the Army, 1944-1946.
