PFC Walter Timothy Kostrzewski

courtesy of Frogman
PFC Walter Timothy Kostrzewski was born 1 May 1919 in Wanger, Minnesota the fourth of nine children born to Martin and Rose Kostrzewski. His mother and his paternal grandparents had all been born in PoznaƄ, Poland. The family farmed.

It appears that Walter was the only one of Martin and Rose's seven sons to be called to service.  After his initial training he was sent to England and assigned to A Company 116th Infantry.  He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault that was to take back Hitler's "fortress Europe".  He was with that unit taking part in the landing when he was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Kostrzewski rests forever with many of his comrades from A Company in the Normandy American Cemetery
