SGT Clarence Moore was born 2 Apr 1916 in Mendota, Virginia. He was the 2nd of 6 children born to Dock William and Sophia Elizabeth (Breeding) Moore. The family farmed in Scott County, Virginia.

After he was drafted, Clarence was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company 116th Infantry and sent to England where the unit trained for the planned amphibious assault on the beaches of northern France. This finally took place on 6 Jun 1944. There were 2 landing craft to carry the regiment command staff in to the beach and one was struck by artillery or mortar fire and destroyed. SGT Moore was on that boat.

SGT Moore was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the Fort Harrison National Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.

Great-grandfather, Elihu Kiser, served as a PVT in Ferguson's Battalion, Virginia Cavalry (CSA). Great, great-grandfather, Ephraim Kiser, served as a PVT in several units in the War of 1812.
