PFC Wilson Hines McDiarmid

PFC Wilson Hines McDiarmid was born 24 Dec 1921 in Kinston, North Carolina. He was the oldest of 3 children born to the Reverend Hector McNeill and Katherine Elizabeth (Newton) McDiarmid. His father was pastor of First Baptist Church in Kinston. Wilson would complete high school and attend Davidson College.

Wilson was probably drafted and entered the Army in April 1943. After basic training he was sent to England and assigned to G Company 116th Infantry and trained for the amphibious landing as part of the invasion of occupied Europe. He participated in that landing and was killed in action on D-Day, 6 Jun 1944.

PFC McDiarmid was repatriated and re-interred in Raeford Cemetery in Raeford, North Carolina.

Brother, Samuel Newton McDiarmid, served in the U.S. Army.Grandfather, Samuel Barnett Newton served as 2LT in E Company 30th North Carolina Infantry (CSA) in the Civil War. Grandfather, Norman McDiarmid, served as a PVT in A Company 5th North Carolina Cavalry (CSA) also in the Civil War.
