PFC Thomas Houston Fridley was born 2 Apr 1917 in Alleghany County, Virginia to John Clifford and Rosa Lee (Bliss) Fridley. By 1920 his parents were separated and his mother supported the family by taking in washing. By 1930, Thomas' sister Nellie was supporting the family by working at the paper mill in Covington. John Clifford had re-married and supported his family by working at a "wagon factory".
After Thomas entered the army he was sent to England and was assigned to B Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault on the beaches of Normandy. On 6 Jun 1944, PFC Fridley was killed in action in that attack.
PFC Fridley was repatriated and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington, Virginia.
