PVT Harry Schiraldi

PVT Harry Schiraldi was born 23 Jul 1921 in New York, New York. He was the 3rd of 7 children born to Joseph and Rose (Savino) Schiraldi. His father worked as an ice dealer and the family was renting at 420 Second Avenue in New York city. Younger brother Anthony died at the age of 3 in 1929. Older brother Peter died at the age of 16. Harry was working for his father in 1940 reporting a 1939 income of $320.

Harry was drafted probably in 1942 and sent to train as a medic after which he was sent to England. Assigned to Medical Detachment 116th Infantry he was then attached to Headquarters 3rd Battalion 116th Infantry for the amphibious assault that took place 6 Jun 1944. PVT Schiraldi was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

PVT Schiraldi was repatriated and re-interred in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, New York.

His brothers also served. Daniel J. Schiraldi served in the U.S. Army in the war. Anthony Paul Schiraldi served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
