PVT Joseph Periandri was born 4 Aug 1917 in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was the oldest of the 7 children born to Guiseppe (Joseph) and Filomena (Cacciacarne) Periandri both of whom were natives of Italy. His father supported his family by working in a steel mill. Younger brother, Nicholas died at less than 5-months of age in 1919. Joseph married Fern Schera in November 1938. In 1940 young Joseph was working as a presser for a clothing company. Both he and his father reported 1939 incomes of $1000. Fern was working as a pairer in a hosiery firm for which she earned $500 in 1939. Young Joseph and his bride were living with his parents at his father's house at 453 Gordon Street in Reading which was valued at $2300.
Joseph was drafted in July 1943. After his basic military training he was sent to England in January 1944 and soon assigned to F Company 116th Infantry. He then participated with that unit in the final preparations for the amphibious assault planned as a part of the invasion of occupied France. PVT Periandri was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944 taking part in that effort.
PVT Periandri was repatriated and re-interred in Gethsemane Cemetery in Laureldale, Pennsylvania.
Joseph and Fern apparently had no children. Fern remarried in 1945.
