PVT Wallace F. Pinkham was born 31 May 1918 in Malden, Massachusetts. He was the 9th of the 10 children born to Philip Warren and Lillian May (Dean) Pinkham. His father worked as a wagon driver and a truck driver. Wallace worked as a dyer for a while. Wallace married Esther Issabella Wedge in 1941.
Wallace was drafted in December 1942. Wallace and Esther had a son born to them in February 1943. It is probable that Wallace got to see him when on furlough before he was sent to England and assigned to I Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault that was to take place at the beach code named Omaha. PVT Pinkham was killed in action taking part in that attack on 6 Jun 1944.
PVT Pinkham rests with many comrades in the Normandy American Cemetery.
Son, Wallace Flagg Pinkham Sr., served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and retired as an SFC. SFC Pinkham died in 2012.
