PFC Elzie Lee North

PFC Elzie Lee North was born in Pierson, Florida on 29 Oct 1922. He was the 2nd of 6 children born to Foster Ogden and Zola Ethel (Hall) North. His father had farmed and worked in road construction. Foster reported a 1939 income of $360 for 48 weeks of work. Elzie was also working as a laborer on a road gang and he reported a 1939 income of $365 for 52 weeks of work. Foster owned their home in Pierson and it was valued at $2000 on the 1940 census. By the time Elzie registered for the draft in September1942, he was working for the St. Johns River Shipyard.

Elzie was drafted just 3 months later in December 1942. After completing his basic training and perhaps some other assignments he was sent to Europe. PFC North was transferred to I Company 116th Infantry on 4 Jul 1944. Less than 2 weeks passed before Elzie was wounded and on 17 Jul 1944 was evacuated to hospital. PFC North died the next day, 18 Jul 1944.

PFC North was interred in the Normandy American Cemetery.
