SGT William Edward Marlin Jr. was born 1 Jan 1915 in Nashville, Tennessee. William was the youngest of the 2 children born to William Edward Sr. and Ora Lee (Cunningham) Marlin. His father worked as an insurance agent and soda fountain manager in a drug store. In 1940, William was working at a garage in Washington, D.C.

William was drafted in April 1941. The unit trained in England for the amphibious assault on occupied France which took place on 6 Jun 1944. SGT Marlin was with the unit for the landing and fought with the unit to Saint Lo. SGT Marlin was killed in action on 17 Jul 1944.
