PVT Edward John Langley was born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania on 25 Dec 1924. He was the only child of Edward Clifford and Olive A. (John) Langley. Edward's father was a carpenter for the local rail road earning as much as a reported $1150 in 1939 enabling him to buy a home in 623 5th Street in Oakmont, Pennsylvania which was valued at $2500 in 1940. This job security also made it possible for Edward to complete high school.

Edward was drafted in April 1943. After completing his 5-months of basic military training he was sent to the European theater. PVT Langley was transferred from the replacement depot to K Company 116th Infantry on 14 Jul 1944. The unit was then engaged in the fight for the major road and railroad crossroads city of Saint-Lo, France. He was killed in action just 2-days later, on the 16th.
