PVT Daniel Lewis Wible was the 4th of what would be 10 children when he was born in Todd, Pennsylvania on 13 Nov 1909. His parents, John Ross and Daisy Amelia (Elvey) Wible, were both born and raised in Fulton County, Pennsylvania and they farmed land they owned near Licking Creek, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, his father suffered from acute appendicitis in August 1922, it burst and despite medical care he died at the age of 39. Daisy was pregnant at the time and daughter Betty Ross Wible died on 4 Mar 1923 just 4-days after her birth. Daisy was apparently unable to care for all her children and before 1930 the younger children were farmed out to either work for their board or sent to the United Brethren Orphanage and Old Folks Home in Quincy, Pennsylvania until they found jobs, were married or, for the youngest, Daisy remarried in 1935. Daisy would die of a heart attack in August 1941 at the age of 54. Daniel's formal education had ended with the 8th grade and he had gone into work, mostly construction, and was working for Harrison Construction in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in October 1940.
Daniel was drafted in February 1942. He apparently knew that this was imminent and married Geneva Anna Rehn just 19-days before he was inducted. After completing his basic military training he was sent to England and assigned to I Company 116th Infantry. PFC Wible trained with the unit as it prepared for amphibious assault in the effort to liberate France. He took part in that assault on 6 Jun 1944 and continued fighting with the unit until killed in action on 17 Jun 1944.
PFC Wible was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the Bethel Cemetery in Clyde, Pennsylvania near his wife.
Brothers, Oliver Roosevelt Wible, John Samuel Wible and Archie Kent Wible all served in the U.S. Army during the war.
