PVT Harry Cabbel Gunter

PVT Harry Cabbel Gunter was born 27 Aug 1921 in Horse Pasture, Virginia to Ernest Lafayette and Lettie Elizabeth (Hodges) Gunter.  His father worked in a furniture factory.  In 1940 Harry was working on a farm.

Harry was drafted in May 1941 and after his training was sent to England and assigned to C Company 116th Infantry.  He trained for and embarked with that unit for the amphibious assault on the French beach code-named "Omaha".  PVT Gunter was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.

PVT Gunter is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
