SGT Julius Anthony Nessing

SGT Julius Anthony Nessing was born 6 Jan 1919 in Meriden, Connecticut. He was the 4th of 11 children born to John and Anna (Palata) Nessing, both of whom were natives of what is now Poland. His father worked for several decades as a shoe repairman.

Julius was drafted in February 1942. After basic training he was assigned to H Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit in preparing for the amphibious assault on occupied France and was promoted to SGT before the planned landings. He was killed in action in that effort on 6 Jun 1944.

SGT Nessing was repatriated and re-interred in Saint Stanislaus Cemetery in Meriden, Connecticut.
