PVT Carl H. Huddleston

PVT Carl H. Huddleston was born 14 Dec 1911 in Fayette County, West Virginia to Clarence Herbert and Anna Mae (Kirby).  His father was a brakeman on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway.  His father died in 1917 and his mother remarried.  His step-father supported the family of 10 as a coal miner.

Carl entered the army in December 1942.  After his initial training he was sent to England and assigned to E Company 116th Infantry where he continued to train with that unit for the amphibious invasion of Hitler's "fortress Europe".  PVT Huddleston was killed in action in that invasion on 6 Jun 1944.

PVT Huddleston was repatriated in 1948 and is buried in Montgomery Memorial Park in London, West Virginia.

Brothers Harry and Clifford and half-brother Edward Leon Carr all served in the army during the war.
