SSG James Andrew Wright

SSG James Andrew Wright was born the youngest of 7 children in Campbell County, Virginia on 12 Dec 1915 to James Thomas and Lockie Bell (Drewry) Wright.  His father supported his family of 9 as a machinist.  In the 1940 census James Andrew is shown as being married, having a 5th grade education and working in a shoe factory.  However, no wife is shown as residing with him.

James was a member of the National Guard.  When he was called to active duty, at the time his unit was federalized in February 1941, he is also shown as married.  James was assigned to B Company 116th Infantry on D-Day.  He was killed in action 6 Jun 1944.

SSG Wright's body returned to the U.S. in 1948.  His internment application only shows his parents.  If he was married she was already out of the picture at this time.  He now rests forever in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia.
