SSG Raymond M. Mierzwa

SSG Raymond M. Mierzwa was born in Utica, New York in 1921. Lived at 506 Millgate in Utica. His parents, Zygmont and Maryanna (Krincidlo) Mierzwa, had 8 children before Maryanna died in 1938.

After Raymond entered the service he was sent to England and assigned to G Company 116th Infantry. PFC Mierzwa trained with the unit for the amphibious assault on the beaches of occupied France and participated in the landings of 6 Jun 1944. His performance of duty resulted in promotion to SSG on 20 Jun 1944. SSG Mierzwa was wounded on 11 Jul 1944 and evacuated to hospital. He returned to the unit from the replacement depot on 29 Oct 1944. SSG Mierzwa was killed in action on 18 Nov 1944.

SSG Mierzwa was repatriated and re-interred in Bishop and Martyr's Cemetery in Whitesboro, New York where he now rests with family.
