PFC Achillus G. Hurley was born 12 Jan 1918 in Laurel County, Kentucky the youngest child Jacob and Sarah Elizabeth (Hensley) Hurley. The family farmed.
Achillus was noted as being a farm hand when he was drafted in December 1942. After his initial training Achillus was apparently assigned to L Company 90th Infantry. In the accompanying photo, he is shown wearing the Anti-Aircraft Command shoulder insignia. Whatever the circumstances, he was transferred from the replacement depot to F Company 116th Infantry on 24 Oct 1944 to serve as a rifleman. PFC Hurley was killed in action on 19 Nov 1944.
Repatriated in 1948, PFC Hurley was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery in East Bernstadt, Kentucky.
