Bernard (as his family called him) was a SGT in G Company 1st Virginia Volunteer Infantry in July 1917. When the unit was mobilized for combat in France part of G Company went to E Company 116th Infantry and that included SGT Magner. SGT Magner was with E Company when he was killed in action on 25 Oct 1918.
SGT Magner rests forever in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. His mother and brother John Lawrence Magner, are also buried in Arlington.
He served with his brother, John Lawrence Magner, in G Company 1st Virginia Volunteer Infantry.
