1LT Thomas Royce Dallas Jr

1LT Thomas Royce Dallas Jr, b. 24 Jun 1920 - d. 6 Jun 1944. Son of Thomas Royce and Marietta Augusta (Lucas) Royce of Griffin, Georgia. Thomas was a member of the Georgia National Guard when the unit was federalized in 1941, he attended OCS at FT Benning and was ultimately assigned to C Company 116th Infantry. Thomas (not related to battalion executive officer MAJ Thomas Spencer Dallas) was with C Company for the D-Day landings at Omaha Beach. According to eyewitness reports, 1LT Dallas was in CPT Zappacosta's boat jumped from the boat and made it to the edge of the sand where he was shot dead.  He is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin, Georgia.
