SSG Lombardo E. Coppola

SSG Lombardo E. Coppola was born 14 Nov 1917 in Bergen County, New Jersey to Joseph and Josephine (Tufano) Coppola. His father worked as a bricklayer's helper and later had a job with the W.P.A. In 1940, Lombardo was working as labor in a sugar plant with a reported income in 1939 of $1000.

When drafted in May 1942, Lombardo was probably still working in that same sort of work.  Sent overseas, he was assigned to E Company 116th Infantry and trained with the unit for the D-Day amphibious assault on "fortress Europe".  He landed with the unit and survived until 17 Jun 1944.

SSG Coppola is buried in Madonna Cemetery in Fort Lee, New Jersey.
