PVT Ralph Jones Miller was born 28 May 1925 in Plainfield, Pennsylvania the only child of Paul M. and Evelyn Emma (Jones) Miller. The couple separated soon after his birth, his mother re-married in 1928, and Ralph was sent to live with his maternal grandparents, Herbert Louvine and Daisy (Kichline) Jones in Plainfield. His grandfather worked in construction and later at the state quarry and the family lived on Pen Argyl RD1 in a home that Herbert owned. Grandpa Herbert reported a 1939 income of $410.

When Ralph registered for the draft he said that he worked for Elwood Lieberman (a local farmer 4 houses away on the same road as the Jones family) and he noted his mother as his next of kin. Ralph was drafted in September 1943 and after training was sent to Europe in March 1944. He was transferred from the replacement depot to B Company 116th Infantry on 13 Jun 1944. PVT Miller was killed in action on 17 Jun 1944.

PVT Miller was buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.

Grandfather, Milton Miller, served as a PVT in A Company 28th Infantry in the Spanish-American War.
