After entering the service and attending his military training, Tony was sent overseas and assigned to D Company 116th Infantry prior to the D-Day assault on the French beaches and participated in that event. He was killed in action on 9 Jun 1944.

We must note that it is probable that he enlisted as "Tony" because that is how his name is recorded on the morning reports but his parents refer to him as "Antonio" in their naturalization documents.
