PFC Basil Lee was born 28 Apr 1924 in Mikado, Michigan the third of ten children born to Frederick Vernon and Muriel (Travis) Lee. The family farmed.
After entering the Army and completing basic training, Basil was sent to England and assigned to B Company 116th Infantry. He trained with that unit for the amphibious assault. He was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944 in support of his unit's effort in the invasion of Hitler's "fortress Europe".
PFC Lee was repatriated re-interred in 1947 in New Albany National Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
Brother Forest Wellington Lee served in the Army from 1942 to 1945.
