PFC Charles Frances Edgar was born 1915 in Newark, New Jersey to Charles Butler and Anne Frances (Meeker) Edgar.  His father drove for a laundry.  In 1940, Charles was also driving but for a bakery.

Charles was still working as a driver and was married when he was drafted in May 1942.  After training, Charles was assigned to A Company 116th Infantry and trained with the unit in preparation for the great amphibious landing on the beaches of Normandy.  PFC Edgar was killed in action on that day, 6 Jun 1944.

PFC Edgar is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery
