PFC Jerome Edward Wilson was born 5 Jul 1921 in California, Missouri. He was the 2nd of the 3 children born to Joseph and Margaret Francis (Martin) Wilson. His father worked as a laborer and by 1940 Jerome was working on road construction for the National Youth Administration but when he registered for the draft in 1942 he was unemployed.
Jerome was probably drafted in the spring of 1942 and after completing his basic military training (he was photographed at his graduation shown at left) he was sent to England and assigned to B Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault that was planned to be part of the invasion of Nazi occupied France. PFC Wilson was killed in action in that assault on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Wilson is buried in the Normandy American Cemetery.
