PFC Orlow Henry Lovejoy was born in 3 Jul 1922 in Macedon, New York the only son of eleven children of Frank Norton and Maude Lydia (Gillis) Lovejoy. His father was a carpenter who had been postmaster at Macedon for two terms. Frank died in 1941 at the Iola Sanitarium of tuberculosis. Orlow's older sisters had been supporting the family with the combined 1939 income of $3642 for five of them.
Orlow had probably learned the trade from his father because he was working in construction and was supporting his mother when drafted in December 1942. Sent to England after basic training he was assigned to A Company 116th Infantry. He trained with that unit for the amphibious landing that would take place at Omaha Beach on the coast of France. PFC Lovejoy was killed in that attack on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Lovejoy is buried at the Normandy American Cemetery.
