PFC Paul Rubin

PFC Paul Rubin was born in New York City, New York on 3 Mar 1922. He was the oldest of Meyer and Dora (Shirwin) Rubin's 3 sons. His father designed shoes and later operated a novelty store. In Paul's lifetime the family lived at 71 Schenectady Avenue and 2278 Strauss Street in Brooklyn. Paul completed 2 years of high school and worked as a typesetter. He married prior to 1943.

Paul was drafted in February 1943. After his basic military training was sent to England and assigned to C Company 116th Infantry. He prepared with his unit for the planned amphibious landing that was to be part of the liberation of occupied France. Paul landed with C Company on 6 Jun 1944 (D-Day). He fought with the unit until wounded on 7 Jun 1944 and died of his wound(s) on 8 Jun 1944.

PFC Rubin was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the Montefiore Cemetery in Springfield Gardens, New York.
