PFC Thomas Henry Goode

PFC Thomas Henry Goode was born 4 Dec 1920 in Buckingham, Virginia to Thomas Alfred "Ling" and Annie Lee (Call) Goode.  "Bee"'s father supported his family as farm labor and his mother worked as a washerwoman. Thomas lost his mother at 2 weeks of age and was raised by his grandmother, Ellen Frances Goode. He attended Clark School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Thomas married Gusta E. Hawkins.

Thomas enlisted in the National Guard in January 1940 and was federalized with the Charlottesville unit in February 1941.  As a member of K Company 116th Infantry, Thomas served at Fort Meade, Maryland, Camp Blanding, Florida and then shipped to England in September 1942.  While in England he trained for the amphibious assault on the French beaches.  He participated in that landing on 6 Jun 1944 but was killed in action 2 days later on 8 Jun 1944.

PFC Goode was repatriated and buried next to his grandmother in Riverview Cemetery in Charlottesville, Virginia. Thomas and Gusta apparently had a daughter.  Gusta did not re-marry until 1952.
