PVT Charles Charlfant Deveaney

PFC Charles Charlfant Deveaney was born 1 Mar 1919 to William John and Martha (Heard) Deveaney of Noblestown, Pennsylvania.  His father worked in a coal mine and later as a watchman in a hardware store.  William John Deveaney died in 1939.  On 10 Sep 1941 he married Hilda Cooley.

On 28 Jul 1942, Charles enlisted and after training was assigned to A Company 116th Infantry as they prepared for the amphibious assault on the Normandy beaches.  He was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.  In the only entry seen for him in the morning reports which begin the day the units left England, Charles rank is given as PFC.  It is likely that after that much time in service he would have been a PFC.

Repatriated in 1948, PVT Deveaney was buried in the Robinson Run Cemetery in McDonald, Pennsylvania.

Hilda remarried in 1946.
