PVT William Edward Newhouse was born 24 Jul 1923 in Library, Pennsylvania. He was the 4th of 6 children born to John Amon and Ellen Nellie (Hughes) Newhouse. His father worked as a coal miner and a quarryman who reported a 1939 income of $331. The family was paying $13 a month rent at that time. William was unemployed when he registered for the draft.

William was drafted in January 1943. After basic training he was sent to England and assigned to Anti-Tank Company 116th Infantry. As a soldier in that unit he would have participated in training for the amphibious assault on occupied France. That action took place on 6 Jun 1944 at Omaha Beach on the coast of Normandy. PVT Newhouse was wounded 2 days later and died of his wound(s) on 9 Jun 1944.

PVT Newhouse was repatriated and re-interred in Jefferson Memorial Park in Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania.
