SGT Allen Perry Moberly

Allen as a Corporal
SGT Allen Perry Moberly was born 14 Oct 1918 in Madison County, Kentucky the son of John Willie and Ethel O. (Dozier) Moberly. His father worked at a tobacco factory as a checker and the family lived at 362 Jefferson Street in Lexington, Kentucky. His mother died of complications surrounding a miscarriage. She was 21. Allen was sent to live with his maternal grandparents, Albert Everett and Lula Ann (Ford) Dozier, who raised him. His grandfather was a farmer and Allen undoubtedly helped work the farm. Allen completed high school and managed to attend 1 year of college. Allen married Lola Katherine Tipton in 1941. The couple moved to Ashland, Kentucky where Allen worked as an accountant for AO&R Company and Lola worked as a clerk for Barbour & Barbour. The Moberlys lived at 2248½ 29th Street in Ashland.

In August 1942 Allen was drafted. After his initial training he was sent to England and assigned to L Company 116th Infantry. He trained with that unit for amphibious operations as the unit prepared for the invasion of occupied Europe. Allen must have demonstrated some competence as a soldier and a leader and he was promoted to SGT by 5 Jun 1944. SGT Moberly and L Company landed on Omaha Beach on 6 Jun 1944 and he was wounded on what we now call D-Day. SGT Moberly died of his wound(s) on 7 Jun 1944.

SGT Moberly would ultimately be interred in the Normandy American Cemetery. His family placed a cenotaph in the Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, Kentucky.

Allen and Lola had no children. Lola remarried in 1947 and died in 1966.
