PVT Charlie Marvin Hagerman was born 15 Apr 1925 in Jolo, West Virginia. He was the youngest of the 9 children born to Arch B and Mary Elizabeth (White) Hagerman. His father farmed land he owned and worked as a blacksmith in McDowell county, West Virginia. Charlie was living and farming with his father when he registered for the draft in April 1943.

Charlie was drafted on 10 Aug 1943.  After his 5 months of basic military training he was likely sent to England sometime in the first 3 months of 1944 and trained there while awaiting the invasion of occupied France. PVT Hagerman was transferred from the replacement depot to E Company 116th Infantry on 9 Aug 1944 as the unit departed Vire, France and moved to join the attempt to liberate Brest on the Bretagne peninsula. Initially reported missing in action on 4 Sep 1944, he was later confirmed to have been killed in action on 1 Sep 1944.

PVT Hagerman was repatriated in 1948 and re-interred in the Hagerman Cemetery in Paynesville, West Virginia.
