PFC Cleo Brent Munday

PFC Cleo Brent Munday was born 13 Jul 1918 in Carroll County, Virginia. He was the 5th of 7 children born to Jesse Patterson and Sarah Jane (Leonard) Munday. His father farmed first near Fancy Gap, Virginia and then in Fluvanna County, on a farm he rented for $200 a year. Of course, Cleo worked the farm with his father.

Cleo was drafted in February 1942. He was soon assigned to L Company 116th Infantry and this was probably before the unit departed for England in September 1942. PFC Munday would have trained with the unit for the anticipated amphibious assault that would be part of the the invasion of occupied Europe. He was with the unit on that day, 6 Jun 1944, when he was killed in action.

PFC Munday was repatriated and re-interred in Scottsville Cemetery in Scottsville, Virginia.

Brother, Isaac Cash Munday, served aboard the USS Wisconsin during WWII. Grandfather, Hubbard Leonard, served in E Company 29th Virginia Infantry (CSA).
