PFC Cono Rocco Severino was born in 1916 in New York City, New York. He was the 2nd of 4 children and only son born to Cono and Filomena (Guerra) Severino. Both of his parents were natives of Italy who had immigrated with their families in 1906 and 1901 respectively. The couple had married in 1912, first living in Manhattan then 179 Frost Street in Brooklyn where they lived for over 2 decades paying a monthly rent of $23 in 1940. The elder Cono founded C. Severino Paper and Rag Stock Company. By 1940 the younger Cono was working as a driver reporting 1939 earnings of $1040.
Cono was drafted and after his basic military training sent to England. Sometime before he left he married Jennie Cimino. Assigned to F Company 116th Infantry, he trained for the amphibious landing that was a planned part of the effort to liberate Nazi occupied Europe. PFC Severino was killed in action in that assault on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Severino was repatriated and re-interred in
Saint John Cemetery in Middle Village, New York.
Jennie never re-married and lived out her life in Maspeth, New York.
