PFC Forrest N. Fitchett

PFC Forrest N. Fitchett was born 26 Jan 1910 to Frank Lucus and Ariminia Elizabeth (Thrift) Fitchett in Church View, Virginia.  His parents worked as farmers and oystermen to support the family.  Forrest followed and was working in the fishing industry in 1930.  On 3 Oct 1933 he married.  He was working as a house painter in 1940 and made a reported $340 in 1939.

When Forrest was drafted on 23 Feb 1942 his divorce from his wife, the former Lucy C Madison, had been finalized just 4 days earlier and he was still recorded as married.  His father, Frank, died in October 1942. After Forrest's training he was assigned to G Company 116th Infantry and was with that unit when he was killed on 6 Jun 1944 during the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach.

PFC Fitchett was returned to the U.S. for burial and he now rests in Hermitage Baptist Church Cemetery in Church View, Virginia.

Forrest and Lucy apparently had no children. Older brother, Horace B. Fitchett, was a veteran of WW1 serving as a PVT in B Company 109th Infantry in the 28th Division.
