PFC James D. Manipole

PFC James D. Manipole was born in 1916 in Syracuse, New York. He was the youngest of 6 children born to Vincent James and Dora (Scarzone) Manipole. Both of his parents were natives of Italy and his dad supported the family by working at a number of different jobs including construction. James attended Cleveland School in Syracuse. He married in 1935 and the couple had a son in 1936. He would be employed by Crucible Steel Company working at the Sanderston Plant. The family lived at 130 Oak Street, Syracuse.

After he entered the Army in June 1942 he trained at Camp Meade, Maryland.  James was then sent to the European theater and assigned to L Company 116th Infantry. It was with that unit that he participated in the amphibious landings at Omaha Beach in the vicinity of Vierville-sur-mer, France on 6 Jun 1944.  PFC Manipole was wounded and died of his wound(s) on 7 Jun 1944.

PFC Manipole rests forever in the Normany American Cemetery.
