PFC Joseph Bradley Kelliher

PFC Joseph Bradley Kelliher was born 14 Mar 1917 in Washington, D.C. to Cornelius Daniel and Elizabeth Mary (Keenan) Kelliher.  Joseph was the 6th of 9 children born to the couple.  One brother, Andrew, died the year that Joseph was born.  His father worked for the natural gas company. On 3 Jan 1942 he married Ada Elizabeth Wilson.

Joseph was drafted in February 1942.  After his initial training he was assigned to K Company 116th Infantry.  This may well have happened before the unit shipped out for England in September 1942.  The then PVT Kelliher trained with the unit in England for the amphibious assault that was to take place at Omaha beach.  He was with the unit that day, 6 Jun 1944, when he was wounded.  PFC Kelliher died of his wound(s) on 7 Jun 1944.

PFC Kelliher was repatriated in 1948 and was re-interred in Arlington National Cemetery

Ada re-married after the war. Joseph's brother, James Francis Kelliher, served in the Marine Corps during the war.
