PFC Prudencio Alfredo Lavin was born 5 Aug 1922 in Barre, Vermont the fourth of six children of Serafino and Emilia (Ruiz) Lavin. His parents were natives of Cantabria, Spain. His father worked as a granite cutter.
Prudencio was working in retail when he was drafted in December 1942. After basic training he was sent to England and assigned to D Company 116th Infantry. He trained with the unit for the amphibious assault on Hitler's "fortress Europe". PFC Lavin participated in that landing and was killed in action on 6 Jun 1944.
PFC Lavin was repatriated in 1947 and re-interred in Hope Cemetery in Barre, Vermont.
