CPL Walter Franklin Kizer was born 20 Oct 1919 in Chase City, Virginia to George Washington and Etta Montana (Blue) Kizer. The family farmed and by 1930 they were producing milk for commercial use.
Walter was a PFC in the local National Guard unit, E Company 116th Infantry, when it was mobilized in February 1941. He was with the unit as it trained at Fort George Meade, Maryland, at Camp Blanding, Florida and when it shipped out for England in late September 1942. He continued to train with the unit for the amphibious assault on Hitler's "fortress Europe" and was with the unit for that great effort. CPL Kizer was wounded on 6 Jun 1944, evacuated to hospital and died of his wound(s) on 7 Jun 1944.
CPL Kizer was repatriated in 1948 and is buried in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Chase City, Virginia.
His father served in the Army in the first World War. Brother, James Roy Kizer, served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1956 when he retired. Brother Luther Bryson Kizer, was also in a 116th Infantry unit of the National Guard in February 1941 and served in the Army from 1941 to 1945.
