PFC William Alexander Drumheller was born 12 Jan 1914 in Amherst County, Virginia to John Adam and Sadie Wills (Lawhorne) Drumheller. The family farmed in the Pedlar district.
William may have been working in a sheet metal trade when his National Guard unit was federalized in February 1941. William was assigned to B Company 116th Infantry on 6 Jun 1944 for the amphibious assault in which he was killed in action. We know that only 1 soldier on Willam's LCVP survived the day. William and many others were killed almost immediately when the ramp dropped by machinegun fire from a position directly in front of the boat.
PFC Drumheller was returned to the U.S. and is buried in Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg, Virginia.
