PFC William Tolbert Boyd

PFC William Tolbert Boyd was born 14 Mar 1915 in Buchanan, Virginia to Patton Lockheart and Amy Isabelle (Charles) Boyd, the 11th of 13 children. The family farmed.  One sister died 9 years before William was born his younger brother died at birth.  His father died in 1934 and his mother died in 1943 as did a sister. 

When William was drafted in April 1941 he was working as a miner in Russell County, Virginia.  He was assigned to I Company 116th Infantry, sent to England to prepare for the cross-channel invasion of "fortress Europe".  In that amphibious assault, PFC Boyd was killed on 6 Jun 1944. 

PFC Boyd was repatriated and is buried in the Patton Boyd Cemetery on the family home place in Russell County, Virginia.
