PVT Carl H. Huddleston was born 14 Dec 1911 in Fayette County, West Virginia to Clarence Herbert and Anna Mae (Kirby). His father was a brakeman on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. His father died in 1917 and his mother remarried. His step-father supported the family of 10 as a coal miner.
Carl entered the army in December 1942. After his initial training he was sent to England and assigned to E Company 116th Infantry where he continued to train with that unit for the amphibious invasion of Hitler's "fortress Europe". PVT Huddleston was killed in action in that invasion on 6 Jun 1944.
PVT Huddleston was repatriated in 1948 and is buried in Montgomery Memorial Park in London, West Virginia.
Brothers Harry and Clifford and half-brother Edward Leon Carr all served in the army during the war.
